This is the third of the annual releases from Laphroaig, who by the way celebrate their 200th year. Laphroaig 27 year old Single Malt Cask Strength bottling is a ripper and limited production will ensure it's an investment grade liquid too.
Production notes: Double-matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and refill quarter casks and bottled at a cask strength of 41.7% ABV, this 27 year old is presented in a white wooden case reminiscent of the walls of the distillery in Islay.
Tasting notes: Primary notes of orange peel, dark stone fruits, dark red berries, mocha, spice and of course smokiness but only faint and some savoury notes. On the palate it's Christmas cake, chocolate, spice, figs and citrus zest while having quite an oiling mouth feel and lingering peaty finish. It's a cracker.
